Montavista 란 녀석이 임베디드 시장에서 많이 사용되는 Linux 기반 OS인데
1초 부팅을 했다고 한다.
크게 3가지 기술로 나뉘어서 부트 타임을 줄였다고 하는데,
첫번 째로

부트로더 최적화, 이를 통해 7초까지 줄였다고 하고..
두번째는 다음과 같은데..
The second stage required an intimate knowledge of the hardware. The Linux boot loader is a serial process. The team’s epiphany came when the developers realized that they could use DMA (direct-memory-access) methods to parallel many tasks in the boot process.
대충 살펴 보니, 리눅스의 부트로더는 순차적인 프로세스이니까, 부트프로세스 안에 여러 패러럴한 태스크들을 DMA를 통해 처리했다고 이야길 하고 있다. 대충 Flash Memory 에서 데이터를 가져온다거나 , 하는 이러한 병렬 작업을 DMA를 통해 후다다닥 해치운것으로 보인다. 여기서 또한 7초에서 4초로 줄였고...
마지막은
The second part of this innovation was the developers’ realization that they didn’t have to load the customer’s entire application, just the parts that the initial application required to start up.
요건데, 대충 보아 하니, Ramdisk 처럼 전체 어플을 메모리에 올린 방식이 아니라 필요한 놈만 올린거 같은데.. 이건 잘 모르겠다.
여하튼 결론은 뭐시다냐...
